Walk to Cure Diabetes
I’ve had diabetes for 14 years now. I was diagnosed at age 11. In those 14 years, I’ve done a below par job of taking care of myself. Every year now for the past couple years, I’ve gotten an email from friends asking for support to find a cure for the awful disease that I have. I’ve always been willing to donate funds, but I’d never walked.
This year however, I walked, I didn’t donate, I asked people to donate for me. I don’t know how the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) ranks success on such events, but there were close to 3000 people walking (or so I heard). And it was fun. It was cool to see that there are things being done to find a cure.
From this point forward, I will participate each year in this walk, if not for me, then for future generations. Diabetes is no fun, and I realize that there are worse off things in the world that I could be cursed with, but I would never wish diabetes on anyone, especially the little kids that come down with it at young ages (birth to 2 years)…I hear we’re close to a cure, I’m going to help find it, even if it’s just a little chump change from some big company’s pocket, or the donations from friends and families…
