Leap Day

Filed Under: Random | Friday, 29 February 2008

it’s leap day, and for the first time ever, I learned a few things about leap day today. A leap year occurs in those years that are evenly divisible by 4. Century years only count if they’re evenly divisible by 400.

This is done because the years are longer than 365 days, there’s a decimal number involved. If we didn’t have leap year, our seasons would shift by almost a month over the course of a century. By having the rules for leap year there’s not much of a shift in our seasons, and even with the slightest bit of a shift it’s not noticeable.

That’s what I learned today.

I’ve Been Cheating On You

Filed Under: Detailed | Thursday, 14 February 2008

Things have been rough around here for the last month. January, well January was a great month, daily posts, it was a good month, but then February came and with February, the posts dropped off, you can say that you’ve been neglected.

It’s ok, I won’t argue with you, I won’t contradict you, in fact, I’ll even go as far as to agree with you, neglected you have been. But you’ve been neglected for a good reason, it’s not just random neglection, and it’s not neglection without initial thought, no, you see, it was well planned out and thought out.

It began 8 months ago, it was in June of 2007, I began seeing someone else in addition to you.

You see, for the last 8 months I’ve been seeing someone else in addition to you, and at first I was very excited to be seeing this someone else. But then things got tedious and I took a break from them for a couple months, but then February came. And in February, they began changing, changing for the good, what was once tedious was going to be tedious no longer.

The problem? You want to know what the problem is? Well, it’s simple, you weren’t exactly meeting all my needs, I needed another outlet for something you just really don’t understand…well, ok, it’s my fault that you don’t understand but even if I tried to fully explain it, you wouldn’t understand…it’s difficult.

I’d say that it’s not you, it’s me, but the truth is, it’s not all me, it’s partly you. But since I’m being honest, I’ll tell you who it is I’m cheating on you with.

Their facelift isn’t quite 100% complete and it’s not that I was ever ashamed of their face, but it wasn’t working out to well for me, it needed to change. And changed it has, I’ve helped it immensely, of course, I was the one that made it difficult in the first place, but that’s besides the point.

So, here’s the secret, I’ve been cheating on you with Ride to Remedy. Ride to Remedy fills that gap that you couldn’t. It’s a long story and not one for this evening, maybe some other time we can discuss it.

Well, ok, I’ll fill you in a little. Ride to Remedy is my diabetes blog, and my cycling blog, since the two go hand in hand. Yeah, I know you originally held all my cycling thoughts/memories, but you just weren’t adequate enough. I needed somewhere that could hold so much more than you as a mini site could handle. You have to understand, we’re talking about tons of entries about diabetes, cycling for diabetes, riding in Tour de Cures across the country. You just weren’t meant for that, you were meant for everything else. So, you’re going to have to share me.

Top Secret Tuesday - Possessive Guys

Filed Under: For the Future Husband, Top Secret Tuesday | Tuesday, 12 February 2008

This is something that has bugged me for years, and it actually really came into realization how much it bugged me when I lost contact for a couple years with a good friend because his girlfriend was overly possessive and wouldn’t let him talk to his friends that were girls. I have a huge problem with guys that are possessive in that same manner. I believe that that kind of possessiveness goes to show just how much you really don’t trust the person that you’re with. But that’s possessiveness on a “we’re together” relationship level.

The other kind of possessiveness that I can’t deal with is on the friendship level. I was a tomboy growing up, all my friends were guys, I was more likely to have a guy friend than I was to have a girl friend just because I wasn’t prissy enough to hang with the girls and I didn’t care about primping and preening or barbies or any of that stuff too much, it just wasn’t my thing. I was more into the mud and digging holes for cars and trucks and dinosaurs to go through or put me on the grass field with a ball and I was happy.

Some of the guys that I’m friends with seem to think it’s their place to tell me about how the other guys that I’m friends with are not good. That pisses me off to no end. I’ll choose my friends and I don’t need my other friends moderating them. I don’t need some guy “friend” telling me about my standards and how they’re going to go out the window when I go head over heels for the next guy that crosses my path. I don’t need guys being jealous and thus getting possessive because they don’t want me talking to/seeing the other guy. I don’t need possessiveness in my life and I won’t stand for it.

I don’t need a leash around my neck, not by friends that are boys and not by boy friends. And that’s what the possessiveness of boys makes it feel like, it’s as though I can only go so far before I get yanked back and told what I can and cannot do.

I am a free spirit, and I will not be controlled by anyone. I’ll only put up with possessiveness for so long until I’m out of there friend of a long time or friend of a short time.
