Hell’s Kitchen
Dear Chef Ramsay & Producers of Hells Kitchen,
I should preface this letter with the fact that I’m not a chef, I’m not even a cook of any sorts unless you count the bowl of cereal with milk or a pb&j made to please as cooking. So what I’m about to say, I’m probably not even remotely qualified in any way shape or form to be saying, because, how can I, as a non-cook judge these so called chef’s that I saw on TV.
But I’ve got a few things to say, and so, in keeping with my normal willingness to share my opinions, I thought I share some with you.
One has to wonder if this show was put together in a last moment frenzy because the network was failing due to the writer strike. There was nothing on TV and FOX needed something and so they said, hey, Hell’s Kitchen has been a hit in the past, let’s bring it back. Somehow this time around though, the applicants weren’t particularly strong, there seems to be a lack of talent a lack of passion for what these chef’s say they want and what their actions show.
Now, I have no clue what the process is to get on the show, but is this truly the creme of the crop, the best of all the applicants? Chef Ramsay said, “to be a great chef you need passion, creativity, and talent” and right from the get go you have to wonder if any of the contestants have all 3 of those qualities. Now, I realize that this was just the first night, but it was also the biggest failure (for a first night).
The initial captains for both teams failed miserably, and forgive me if I’m wrong, but to be an executive chef, doesn’t one need to be able to lead their cooks in the kitchen, take some kind of control? I think right from the get go there are two people that need to go home, the mouse and mr 4 star general hands off won’t make it as an executive chef (whether they can cook or not) because they didn’t take control of their kitchens.
I’m just really mind boggled, especially after the signature dish tasting what was seen in these contestants. The show really didn’t get any better after that, in fact, it went really down hill when Jason was sitting outside smoking a cigarette and removing the toejam from between his toes.
Is there really a hopeful among this group?
Courtney

I couldn’t believe how “green” the contestants were! In the past they have been pretty good cooks, but a Stay At Home Dad? What was that all about? He’s not a professional cook! Professional=being paid.
I so was going to say something about that (the stay at home dad), but then I caught myself and decided that perhaps that if I didn’t write it out, it wouldn’t seem as judgmental in my head as it really is.
Nothing against the SAHD, I’m sure he can whip up some damn good meals, but to have the experience to run his own restaurant in LA? No way. And that is what the show has been about in the past!
