Vices

Filed Under: Random | Thursday, 17 April 2008

I was walking into the office after lunch and in one hand I had a 12 pack of diet coke. In the other hand, an open Red Bull.

The ladies outside the doors just looked at me with eyebrows raised. (They were aware that I was trying to lay off the soda and caffeine.)

The words that came out of my mouth were:

“I just don’t do well if I don’t have a vice.”

Leap Day

Filed Under: Random | Friday, 29 February 2008

it’s leap day, and for the first time ever, I learned a few things about leap day today. A leap year occurs in those years that are evenly divisible by 4. Century years only count if they’re evenly divisible by 400.

This is done because the years are longer than 365 days, there’s a decimal number involved. If we didn’t have leap year, our seasons would shift by almost a month over the course of a century. By having the rules for leap year there’s not much of a shift in our seasons, and even with the slightest bit of a shift it’s not noticeable.

That’s what I learned today.

Everyone Loves Magical Trevor

Filed Under: Random | Thursday, 07 February 2008

Magical Trevor, the first time I heard that song I was Skyping with Jules and they had it on loop and it was playing over and over again (as loop implies). I thought it was magical treasure that it was singing about. That’s really the only part that I paid attention to. And then she said something about “Magical TREVOR” and I was like, wait, what, Trevor, it’s not treasure?

It wasn’t until I got back from Postie Con that I looked on YouTube for the Magical Trevor video, because I had met Magical Trevor (and I don’t have a picture of me with him, but I will in a couple weeks, I promise you). And so this is the Magical Trevor video (just episode 1 though, because there are, after all, 4 episodes)

Having seen the video you should have a good grasp on the lyrics, but in the event you’re like me and had problems here they are:

Everyone loves Magical Trevor
‘Cause the tricks that he does are ever so clever
Look at him now, disappearin’ the cow
Where is the cow heading right now?

Taking a bow, it’s Magical Trevor
Everybody seen that the trick is clever
Look at him there with his leathery, leathery whip!
It’s made of magic, and with a little flip

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the cow is back
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the cow is back
Back, back, back from his magical journey
Yeah!

What did he see in the parallel dimension?
He saw beans, lots of beans, lots of beans, lots of beans. Oh, beans lots of beans lots of beans lots of beans.
Yeah, yeah!

So, I’m rambling on right now about Magical Trevor, why? Because of beans, which sounds very much like beings.

The other night I’m at bible study and there’s a heated discussion going on about spiritual beings. I’m sitting there listen and one of the girls was going on and on “beings beings beings” and I was like, are you singing Magical Trevor? and she just looked at me, she’s about 15-16 and had no clue what I was talking about, I said, you know, Magical Trevor, beans lots of beans lots of beans? I’m getting blank looks at this point so I keep going “look at him now disappearing the cow?” Still getting blank looks, so I escort all the teen girls to the nearest computer and we watch Magical Trevor and educate them.

I promise you, that if you say beings really fast, it does sound like beans, and if you say beings several times in a row and you’ve watched Magical Trevor you’re going to think of him.

Oh, you want to know about the other episodes? You can check them out here on Weebl’s Stuff

Addison Road

Filed Under: Random | Monday, 21 January 2008

addison road Every now and then on the local Christian rock station (M88) they’ll play something that’s not mainstream, and they’re usually some kind of indie punk rock group that’s released a new song and that you can google all you like for the words in the lyrics and you’re lucky if you find something remotely close to what you heard.

So I’m driving home the other day and I hear a song, and of course, as it habit for radio announcers, they don’t say what the song is or who’s singing it. I get home in time to go to their website and see the last couple songs that had been playing, and one stuck out (because it had some of the words in the song in the title, how convenient): All That Matters.

Something about the melody, the bass line, the lyrics, it just all goes together real well…if I had it my way, it would be a song for Rock Band or Guitar Hero. It would totally work…

The song sucked me in immediately with these words:

I may never be the one that gets a second glance
I may never be the one they call the prettiest
That’s all right with me

That’s me, of course, I’ve never really cared if I was the prettiest or if I got a second glance, but because I could relate I was driven to listen to the words and not just the music behind them (which is all I listen to anymore).

The song goes on, and I’m reminded of my Lord, Jesus Christ, and what he did for me, and that that’s all that matters (which is often hard in this life to keep as my focus).

I’ve been changed by grace
I’ve been saved by love
All that matters is, all that matters is
I know that your love has set me free
and that’s all that matters to me

You can hear the song on their myspace page. The song is “All That Matters”. Even if you don’t generally listen to Christian music, I’d give it a listen simply because even if you don’t like the words, the music is good stuff.

Governor Bill Richardson Drops out of Presidential Race

Filed Under: Random | Thursday, 10 January 2008

I don’t ever write about politics on my blog, actually that’s a lie, there’s politics behind everything it seems, but I don’t usually write about “real” politics, what’s going on out there in the government, I try to ignore all that stuff because I think I should be ruler of the world, as I could do it better *rolls eyes* whatever. we all have our opinions on politics and I just try to avoid voicing mine because in general, politics cause huge conversations/arguments and you got to know your stuff to support yourself and frankly, i’ve got better things to do than listen to people whom I really don’t care about stand up and talk about why they’re better than the other people their running against…

Anyways, Bill Richardson, I’ve disliked him since the day I met him. He was campaigning back in 2002 to become the governor of NM, which he did, and he followed it up with a second term, but that’s all besides the point. But it was sometime in 2002 and I’m sitting in Frontier Restaurant across from the University of New Mexico Campus and he’s there praying on college students. I’m at a booth talking with my friend while enjoying the famous cinnamon rolls that the Frontier is known for and he comes over and tries to make small talk with us while I try desperately to ignore him because I really didn’t want to talk to him because if I really cared about him at all I would’ve made an attempt to meet him and ask him about the issues on the playing field but I really didn’t care. So in an effort to be polite but to also make him move on, I shake his hand, and he made a comment that just really irked me “does meeting your candidates make you want to vote for them?” I shrugged, I don’t care, me shaking your hand isn’t going to make me want to vote for you…

The thing about it is, no candidate that’s running for anything is ever going to be able to meet everyone that could possibly vote for them, and coming to an arena where you can meet people and possibly sway them to vote for you isn’t going to make me want to vote for you anyways…especially coming to where the college kids swarm, most college kids (and this is purely my opinion based on all the classes I took) could care less about the government, we think that the people in positions of power are doing a piss poor job and truth be known, a good majority of us don’t even vote (i do vote though, i vote to try and keep idiots out of important positions, not that it always works)…

So, back to Richardson, I haven’t liked him since before he was the governor of NM. And when he was the governor, or is rather, during his time as governor if you will, I was less impressed with him because I felt he wasn’t taking care of this state and he was off gallivanting around wasting our money. And that really hasn’t changed. He’s gallivanting around trying to win people over to vote for him as president but he doesn’t have the support needed, and when he came in 4th in the Iowa caucus at just 2% of the vote, I couldn’t figure out why he didn’t just quit then and there, beyond his incessant need to waste money that is, I guess he couldn’t find a reason to quit, so he had to keep going and loose the NH primary before he decided to step out of the runnings.

I really need to stop right here before I venture into grounds of the unknown (to me) and say something completely wrong (which I may have already done).

Travel The World

Filed Under: Random | Wednesday, 09 January 2008

This past year, I was real fortunate when it came to traveling out of NM. In the 20 years that I have lived in NM, up until last year, I had maybe only gone out of state 7-10 times. That may seem like a lot to some people, but to me it was nothing, to me that’s 4-5 trips to see the biological father in CA, one trip to FL, and 2 trips to MS. That’s not a whole lot of traveling. But last year, with me graduating and all, I discovered that I would love to be in a job where I was on the road once a month, out of the state, off somewhere else, the three trips I took last year just really made me realize, I’m not ready to be in one place, I want to be in all kinds of places. But beyond last years realization, there’s this dream I’ve had since I was in high school, the dream of wanting to travel out of the US. I want to see the Sistine Chapel in Florence, the Colosseum in Rome, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, I could sit here all day and tell you what I want to see in Italy (which pretty much amounts to all of it) I want to go to Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, England, Australia, Africa, I want to go walk where Jesus walked, I just want to go places.

witwic.jpgKindof like the way my buddy Colleen goes places, she’s always going places, and she usually tells us where she’s going when she’s going places. She’s not budging this time though. As disappointing as it was to not know where she’s going for her next trip, she’s provided a little fun, she’s given us clues, and we get to determine for ourselves, where she’s going.

It’s a contest, so if you’re not involved already, get excited, there’s prizes to be won:

1st Prize - a $50 Travelocity Gift Card, and a souvenir from her trip!
2nd Prize - a $25 Travelocity Gift Card, and a souvenir from her trip!
3rd, 4th, and 5th Prize - a souvenir from her trip!

Of course, there’s also rules, *rolls eyes* I know, rules, but there has to be rules, that way it’s fair, so read closely:

  • Check for a new clue (or a link to a clue) to be posted on her blog daily.
  • When you think you know where she’s going, just shoot her an email with your guess!
  • Subject Line: Where In The World Is Colleen?
  • Please do NOT use the comments on her blog to make your guess!
  • She’ll compile the correct guesses and do a random drawing (after her return) to select the winners.
  • The clues given each day will get progressively easier, so by the end of the contest, the answer will be obvious if you’ve played along!
  • If you’ve guessed already, and then decide to guess again, you’re more than welcome to - but only CORRECT guesses get you an entry!
  • Your correct answer, sent to Colleen by email, gives you ONE entry into the drawing for a prize.
  • If you’d like to blog about the contest, and link back to her blog, she will give you 10 entries - no correct answer needed! That means you can earn up to 11 entries if you figure out where she’s going and blog about the contest.

Ok, now that the formalities are out of the way, guess what…I HAVE A CLUE! *Does a little dance* Ok, sorry, I’m overly excited about this clue (I know, I need to get out more often)…so, have you figured out where she’s going yet? Are you shaking your head “NO”? Well then, let me help:

Clue #8: This capital city that Colleen is traveling to is a small city with a big city feeling to it

Now make a guess, after 7 other clues and with this one, you should be able to get it, if not, there’s two more clues so keep an eye out for those on Simple Kind Of Life.

Blogger Court’s Fate Is Held By Ogre Ted’s Decision

Filed Under: Random | Monday, 05 November 2007

The final chapter in A Blogger’s Quest For A Digital Camera

As Blogger Court sat on Ogre Ted’s table trembling at what he would say in regards to her invading his territory, she had help she hadn’t known about standing outside plotting their entrance into Ogre Ted’s home.

Little did Blogger Court know that all along her quest, she had been followed by Britt, a brave elf; Karen, a sprite that glowed a shade of indigo; and their fearless leader Veronique, a druid that had nature on her side. Interested in seeing if Blogger Court could battle through what her mind pre-disposed her too they had followed her from the moment she picked up an application. Blogger Court’s adventure would take them places they had never been before. They would be stuck in a blizzard hiding in the far back of a cave where Blogger Court couldn’t detect them shivering because they couldn’t light a fire to warm themselves.

They would almost get stuck in a spider web because Blogger Court had gotten stuck with her words and was unable to develop a clear thought while she was atop the mountain in a beautiful forest. Had Blogger Court not had a run in with the spider while she was caught in the web they wouldn’t have known her destination, there was no telling what her mind was going to weave them into. The spider however had told Blogger Court her ultimate destination, just not how she was going to get there or what she’d run into along the way.

“You will travel far to get what you’re looking for, in the end, you’re looking for an Ogre named Ted. Your destiny is held by his decision. Whether you’re successful or not fully depends on him. Your journey won’t be done tonight because you don’t know when or where you’ll meet him, you can only speculate.

One has to wonder if Blogger Court wasn’t devoured by the spider on behalf of the presence of Veronique and the respect that she had for animals as well as the respect animals had for her.

After a near meeting with death, where Blogger Court almost fell off a cliff, she finds herself crawling down a tunnel into the belly of the mountain she had previously climbed where she meets up with a fiery creature in which she barely escapes with her life. But then things get interesting, a sign points her to Ogre Ted’s home on a mound where he’s standing out in front.

She approaches him and he calls out to the fair maiden. He takes her into his home and sets her on the table, Britt, Karen, and Veronique didn’t make it into his house and are left outside to plot a plan on how to get into Ogre Ted’s home should something unfortunate begin to brew in his home.

Blogger Court sat there on the table after she had described to Ogre Ted the meaning of her appearance at his doorstep. She had no way to escape, there was only one door out of his home, there was a window but it was shut, she glanced at the fireplace where she was sure she could’ve shimmied up the fireplace…if there hadn’t been a fire burning in it…it truly came down to Ogre Ted decapitating and eating her for dinner or him granting her wish, giving her a camera, and then sending her back to the guild.

He had known at least one Blogger would show up at his home, he just wasn’t sure how they’d get there. Blogger Court had told him of her entire adventure on her A Blogger’s Quest For A Digital Camera and he was intrigued by it.

He pulled a chair up to the table and proceeded to sit down, put an elbow on the table, and rest his head in his hand. At this Blogger Court’s three guardian panicked and ran into the door which cracked it just enough that they could creep through. Ogre Ted glanced at the door and waved it off as the wind that had caused it to open. Britt, Karen, and Veronique walked over to the table where they hid behind the leg closet to the door where Ogre Ted couldn’t see them.

Blogger Court is staring into Ogre Ted’s big eyes wondering if this is going to be the end of her and that the last face she is ever going to look upon be his. Ogre Ted is staring at Blogger Court pondering what he’s going to do with her. He’s really not mean to enough to decapitate and eat her he thinks to himself, and she did overcome some difficult obstacles…

Just as he opens his mouth to speak, Britt, Karen, and Veronique climb over the edge of the table and yell “WAIT!!! DON’T EAT HER!!!” He glances their way and rolls his eyes. He couldn’t believe this, is this the reputation he has, ripping the heads off of adventures and eating them, where did he get that rep anyways he wonders to himself. He scoops them up in his right hand, lowers his left and asks for Blogger Court to step into it. He stands up and walks to his mantle where he puts all 4 adventures down.

Ogre Ted: “I wasn’t going to eat her”

Britt: “But your mouth was open”

Ogre Ted: “I kindof have to open my mouth to speak”

Karen: “What are you going to do with her then?”

Ogre Ted: “Well…”

Veronique: “Well what???”

Ogre Ted looks at Blogger Court, Blogger Court wrinkles her eyebrows and looks at him, Ogre Ted raises an eyebrow and magically, an HP Digital Photography Gear pack appears at Blogger Court’s feet.

*deep breathes from all 4 adventures*

Ogre Ted: She did well, she made it through the adventure her mind set before herself and made it here to me. Her reward is the HP Camera that she’s asked for, that she came for.

[and with that Blogger Court woke up on her bunk at the Blogger’s Guild, not knowing if she had been dreaming or if she had really gone and done all that she remembered. Was it a dream she ponders as she rubs the sleep from her eyes, at which point she sees the HP box sitting there in her knapsack. She had gone and conquered. And Ogre had spared her life and granted her wish. With that she hopped down from her bunk to go off on another adventure with her new HP camera.]

Settlers of Catan

Filed Under: Random | Friday, 02 November 2007

I just got home after playing Settlers of Catan for a couple hours and I have to say that I love that game. It’s a board game, but it’s not all about luck and it’s not all about logic. It’s a little bit of both. You own land and when dice are rolled if they’re your numbers then you earn commodities like sheep, wheat, brick, wood, and ore and then you use your commodities to build settlements and cities and roads. And in the sea farers extension which is what I was playing tonight you can build boats and you try to get to the land that has the gold on it. It’s so much fun and it can last a while. There were four of us playing tonight and it took about an hour and a half. I won :) YEA ME! All your cities and settlements are worth points and the first one to 12 points wins. It’s a whole lot of fun and a very enjoyable board game.

Online Quizzes

I was bored, and I was surfing sites, and what started with a picture of Paris and the statement “I would live in Paris” sent me to a BrainFall.com to take a quiz to find out what I should live in.

What City Should You Live In?

You should live in New York City. America’s largest city will ensure that you will blend into the crowd. You are the brooding type–introspective, creative, and eccentric–and NYC’s cutting-edge, individualistic culture and ambience will appeal to you.
Find Your Character @ BrainFall.com

But then because I was bored, I went and took a million others.

Which Pixar Character Are You?

You are Nemo. Your are the rebel in the group. You do things differently, not
because you think they should be done that way, but because your Mommy
told you not to do such “bad” things. This is cool if you ask us,
and we are pretty sure your friends agree.
Find Your Character @ BrainFall.com

Which College Major Should You Be?

Your major should be part Engineering. Logic is your friend. With enough work, you can find a solution to anything… Unless it involves dating or parties.
Your major should be part Computer Science. You like nothing more than spending long nights with friends in the computer lab… which is a good thing since that’s exactly how you’ll spend the next couple years.
Find Your Character @ BrainFall.com

Which Disney Princess Are You?

You are Pocahontas. You defy convention and sometimes do what is considered taboo. Unfortunately, others do not always appreciate your differences, so it’s good that you are so strong-willed. You are loyal and you believe in fate. Your true love will find you one day.
Find Your Character @ BrainFall.com

What Car Would You Be?

You would be a Stretch Hummer. You are as big and bold as they come. You get what you want, when you want, and you can run over old ladies without even knowing it.
Find Your Character @ BrainFall.com

What Kind of Guy Will You Fall For?

You would fall for the geek. If you’re looking for love, consider spending a little more time studying up in the library. To you, there’s nothing more attractive than intelligence, shyness, and kindness; your future love may have four eyes and zero social skills, but he’ll make up for it in brains and heart.

And then I got even more bored. And I stopped taking quizzes…there were just too many questions…answering them got tedious
