You’ve already seen Utterz here on Traveling Thoughts. They’re the coolest things since sliced bread. But there’s a story behind Utterz here on Traveling Thoughts, and I’m going to tell it.
It begins at blog world expo:
I was making a b-line for the restrooms. I had to go pee in a bad way. As I was going on Sim at the Utterz booth asked if I had a moment. I told him that I needed to go potty, but since he had been so nice and I had passed the booth on several occasions and they weren’t like the sales clerks in the stores hunting you down trying to help you that I’d be back. Boy am I glad that I went back.
When I went back, Sim asked if I knew what Utterz was. I responded no, and he said the best way to find out was to register. Talk about making a quick sell. Lucky for me, it’s free. But I did register, and I was very excited because within 5 minutes I had both TravelingThoughts.com and RideToRemedy.com ready to utter to.
You’re probably wondering, what is an utter. This is the coolest thing. An utter is any combination of voice, video, pictures, and text mashed together. I can call and leave a voice recording, within 10 minutes, I can text, send a picture, send a video, and it will mash it all together. Totally hot right?
What I like about it, is that it’s mobile blogging to the 9th degree. Or Mobloging if you will. What really sold me on it, is that now, while on my bike rides in the Tour de Cure(s) that I’m participating in, I can call in to 712-432-Mooo (6666) and record a voice utter and it will post to my site. If I’m stopped at a rest stop and taking pictures, I can send them in to go@utterz.com. It’s just so cool that I can now provide live updates, people can follow my blog for the couple hours that I’m on my ride and know exactly what’s going on. Or better yet, they don’t have to follow my blog, they can follow my twitters and know that my blog has been updated. I’m so excited about it. It’s a beautiful thing.
My utterz won’t be limited to just bike rides though, it’s already been seen, if I’m out and about and something worth uttering comes up, it gets put on my website. Talk about smooth. Utterz has just become my favorite way to moblog :)
With Utterz you can post not only to the Utterz but there is currently the capability to have your utterz published to blogger, livejournal, tumblr, typepad, twitter, and wordpress. I myself currently just have it posting to my wordpress blogs but soon I’ll add it to my twitter account.
There are also widgets that can be put on your site if you’d like your utterz to be seen in more than just a post on your site. Me, I’m not too worried about people seeing my utterz, at least not yet, so I’m not using any widgets, but a widget would be useful for times when I’m riding, because then it could be seen right up front and people wouldn’t have to read my blog. There are currently three widgets to choose from, classic, nano, and sidebar. If I were to put a widget on this site, it’d go in the sidebar:
What’s cool about the widgets is that I can define the color of it, who’s utterz I want it to play, how many utterz it should contain, what order the utterz should be played in, I can even tell it to play automatically or not (which I choose not).
As you can see there’s so much to Utterz and Utterz is still a baby so there’s going to be so much more to it. I totally recommend jumping on board with Utterz, you won’t regret it.
